Hackers stole assets of Japan's cryptocurrencies worth $74 million

The hackers succeeded in transferring some of the funds received by illegal means to other accounts.


The cybercriminals broke into the Japanese currency exchange, Liquid. As a result of the cyber attack, assets were stolen in a cryptocurrency with $74 million in Bitcoin, Eaether, XRP and TRX.


According to the exchange, the experts are tracking the movement of assets and working with other exchanges to freeze the stolen funds and return them to their owners. The hackers succeeded in transferring some of the funds received by illegal means to other accounts.


An estimated $44.8 million worth of funds were transferred to the Ethereum, while their Bitcoin address was worth about $4.8 million worth of tokens.


Crimes involving the theft of cryptocurrencies have become more and more common in recent months. According to CipherTrace, $681 million worth of cryptography assets were involved in theft, burglary and fraud between January and the end of July.


This figure almost doubled in the last week, as the DeFi Poly Network hackers stole $600 million worth of cryptocurrencies.
